Best of '24 | Father Suggests 'College Isn't Everything' After Son Asks About College Fund, While Washing New GT3 RS
December 9, 2024

"Isn't this a dope ass car?"

COMPTON—Eduardo Santos, 48, was busy washing his brand new Porsche GT3 RS in the driveway when his 18-year-old son, James, approached him to discuss his college fund. The conversation quickly took a turn when Eduardo casually suggested that maybe college wasn’t the only path to success.

“Look, Javier,” Eduardo said, pausing from meticulously drying the gleaming Porsche, “I’m not saying college is bad. But it’s not everything, either. There are plenty of ways to make it in life without going to college.” Eduardo stressed the importance of choosing any option that wouldn't out him for spending the college fund..

As Javier nervously mentioned that many of his friends were already applying to universities, his father reassured him with a smile. “I get it. Everyone’s doing it, so it feels like the only option. But look around,” he said, gesturing toward the GT3 RS. “Isn't this a dope ass car?”

Javier, still unsure, asked if his father why he suddenly changed his opinion on college. Eduardo chuckled. “Maybe I just changed, I don't know,” he stated, eyeing the car. “Maybe you can wait a few years instead? What's financial aid look like these days?”

The conversation left Javier with much confusion, and his father, satisfied with his clean GT3 RS, with the hope that his son would carve his own path—a path that wouldn't require him selling his GT3 RS.
