"...sure it's windows actually work, but it has no soul."

LOS ANGELES—In the world of performance cars, opinions often vary widely, but few are as intriguing as that of Bruce Thompson, the 11th owner of a 1993 BMW 325i. Thompson recently voiced his discontent with the new BMW M5, claiming it falls short of sports car standards due to its weight.
“I wouldn’t buy the new M5,” Thompson said, shaking his head. “It’s too heavy to be a true sports car. When I think of a sports car, I imagine something nimble and responsive. That's not something worth throwing my money at.”
Thompson, who is on the ‘93 325i level of BMW ownership, argues that BMW just isn't what is used to be from his inflatable mattress. "The 325i, while not as powerful as the M5, is all about balance and driving pleasure,” Thompson explained. “It’s not just a car; it’s an experience. The new M5 has no soul, sure it's windows actually work, but it has no soul.”
Thompson’s perspective highlights a growing debate among car lovers about the evolution of sports cars. While technology and performance continue to advance, many, like Thompson, still cherish the timeless qualities of classic models mainly because it's easier to hate when you can't afford them.
