Opinion: Why I’m the Greatest Tool in My Own Garage

"...every greasy bolt only goes as far as my hands will push them."

CORONA—There comes a point in every garage owner's life when they realize the most valuable tool isn’t hanging on the wall or tucked in a toolbox—it’s them. That’s right, I’m the greatest tool in my own garage. It’s a badge of honor.

“My impact wrench gets the job done quickly, but I’m the one who knows exactly when to stop before stripping a bolt,” I remind myself every time a project hits that critical moment. No machine can replace the skill and precision I bring to the table. After all, I’m a colossal tool.

Take my last project, rebuilding an entire engine from scratch. “You can have all the specialized tools in the world,” I say, “but if you don’t have the know-how to pull it all together, you're left with a useless garage.” Every socket, every torque wrench, and every greasy bolt only goes as far as my hands will push them.

So yeah, I'm a colossal tool because I make sure the work gets done. Without me, I wouldn't have a garage—I’d have a museum.
