2026 Honda Prelude Interior Revealed: Comes with Steering Wheel and Two Front Seats
April 8, 2025

"...technically... yeah, it's like a Prelude."

TORRANCE, CA — After years of speculation, teaser sketches, and blurry spy shots, Honda has officially revealed the interior of the 2026 Prelude. The announcement confirms that the iconic nameplate returns with exactly what fans were expecting—a steering wheel and two front seats.

“We really wanted to show how we honored the original prelude,” said Honda design lead Keisuke Watanabe. “It was important that we draw inspiration from the original Prelude. The new Prelude’s interior delivers what matters: a place to sit and something to steer.”

Images released with the press announcement show a completely functional steering wheel, two vinyl-covered front seats, and what appears to be a glovebox, though no one has confirmed if it actually opens.

Honda is calling the design language “A nod to Prelude”, a philosophy that boldly rejects any actual inspiration from the original Prelude's existence.

“It was important to us that we kept our faithful fans in mind,” said U.S. product manager Dana Mitchell. “You want throwback? Steer. You want 90s comfort? Sit twice.”

Buyers hoping for a back seat may be disappointed. Honda has confirmed there might be one, but “They are still looking for the inspiration for the back seat.”

Reaction from longtime Prelude fans has been mixed. “It’s got a steering wheel and two seats,” said Marco Perez, standing quietly next to a ‘98 Prelude at a Cars & Coffee meet. “So technically... yeah, it's like a Prelude. I guess.”

Still, others see Honda’s minimalist approach as bold. “This is what we’ve been asking for,” said Jose Davila, automotive writer. “A car for the original supporters of the Prelude. It’s what every car manufacturer should aspire to.”

As dealerships prepare to receive the new Prelude, Honda remains confident in its inspired strategy.

“This is a car for purists,” Mitchell said. “For people who want to feel the heritage of the legend that is the Prelude. It’s the biggest thrill in driving.”

And for those wondering if future trims will add more features?

Mitchell replied, "No.”
